It also contains significantly expanded sections on composite design and design for fire conditions as well as a new appendix on high-strength filled composite members, all of which introduce provisions for the design of concrete-filled composite steel plate shear walls, also known as SpeedCore. The updated Specification contains notable member and connection design updates, including new requirements for torsional buckling of members with lateral bracing offset from the shear center. The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) just released the latest version of its flagship standard, the “Specification for Structural Steel Buildings (ANSI/AISC 360-22),” the foundation of the 16th edition Steel Construction Manual, which AISC expects to publish later in 2023. If a bolt is tight, a DTI will show it, independent of weather, torque, angle, tool or skill. Turn-of-Nut can be defeated by misrepresenting turn angle, regardless of turn applied. TCs are torque bolts that are adversely affected by cold or wet weather. Torque, Turn-of-Nut and TCs can all produce false-positive tension, and regularly do: Torque scatter is ±40% for new bolts, and worse for weathered. DTIs are load cells that ensure compliance with bolting standards and specs. Applied Bolting Technology produces DuraSquirt DTIs (Direct Tension Indicators) that supply a bright orange indication when bolts have been tensioned, making tight bolts easy to see.
